Editor’s Letter
Pervy Sage Jiraiya with Gamabunta and Godzilla & Mothra show how a companion changes the mood of a display. Vaal Hazak is the contrasting choice when one creature should remain the entire subject.
Read the full letterClose letter
Jiraiya’s pairing gives the standing figure a larger character base rather than an anonymous platform. The kaiju meal turns two familiar creatures into a small comic scene through one unexpected prop. The winged monster needs neither kind of partnership, because the body itself supplies the dominant outline. We like the smaller Pokémon pieces for a related reason: a leaf canopy or a patch of bamboo is enough to make their quiet moments feel complete. The selection works best when those differences are preserved. A shared scene should make the relationship worth looking at, while an isolated creature should keep its silhouette clear. Adding another companion is only useful when it changes the idea of the display, rather than simply occupying space around the lead figure.
Why Now
01
Lelouch returns to a screening programme
The Code Geass site announced a staff talk for a Lelouch of the Re;surrection screening on September 17. It gives the throne portrait a specific character connection within the anniversary programme.
02
Monster Hunter expands its platform plans
Capcom’s September 10 release announced Monster Hunter Wilds for Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement is broader franchise context for Vaal Hazak and Arzuros, not confirmation that these creatures feature in that version.
03
A new Digimon game expansion
Bandai Namco announced A Hero’s Eternal Legacy for Digimon Story Time Stranger on September 3. It provides a recent series reference for the armoured Digimon choices, whose contrasting character treatments remain the collecting decision.
Chapter 01
Character partners: Jiraiya, Lelouch & San
A companion, a throne and a paired pose can each change the meaning of a portrait. The supporting subject should do more than raise the central figure above the base.
Pervy Sage Jiraiya with Gamabunta — Naruto
Pervy Sage Jiraiya with Gamabunta places the standing character above the toad’s broad head and body. The green cloak and spiralling effects direct attention upward, while Gamabunta remains a recognisable second subject below. The result is a partnership rather than a figure on an abstract pedestal.
The listed dimensions are 25 cm long, 30 cm wide and 34 cm high. We would choose it for the relationship between the two characters and leave the toad’s face visible from the main viewing position. That lower subject is part of the reason for the footprint, not scenery to hide behind smaller figures.
Best for: a Naruto pairing in which both characters remain visible

Strong outlines: Vaal Hazak, Gojo & WarGreymon
Wings, armour and a directional effect can define a figure without a large supporting cast. These subjects benefit from clear separation between their outer edges and the background.
Vaal Hazak — Monster Hunter
Vaal Hazak uses spread wings and a dark body to create a broad creature outline above a rocky lower setting. The red tones in the wing surfaces distinguish the upper forms without changing the generally dark palette. The creature itself carries the display rather than sharing the scene with another figure.
The listing gives approximately 27 cm in height, 30.5 cm in width and 16 cm in depth. We would choose a viewing position that allows both wings to remain visible against a quieter background. The main appeal is the continuous silhouette, so adding a crowded foreground would work against the reason to select this composition.
Best for: a single winged creature with a clear background

Quiet humour: Godzilla, Mudkip & Treecko
A meal, a resting place and a small habitat can change how a familiar creature is seen. The supporting object is most effective when its role is immediately clear.
Godzilla & Mothra — Godzilla Fun Theater Vol. 3: Happy Meal
Godzilla & Mothra: Happy Meal joins the two creatures with a hamburger on a rocky base. The ordinary food prop changes the tone of the pairing, turning a familiar kaiju subject into a comic scene. The relationship is easy to understand without needing a large environmental story around it.
The listed dimensions are 20 cm high, 23 cm wide and 26 cm deep, with LED lighting included. We like this as a distinct change of mood beside more serious creature displays. The hamburger and the two figures should remain visible together, because separating them visually would lose the simple joke that gives the composition its purpose.

Jiraiya and Gamabunta make the partnership count.
Pervy Sage Jiraiya with Gamabunta is our lead choice when a companion should change the whole structure of the display. The toad’s face and body remain meaningful subjects beneath the standing figure. Vaal Hazak is the alternative when a single creature’s outline should dominate.
Godzilla & Mothra offers the lighter shared scene, while Mudkip’s leaf canopy supplies the quietest small addition. We would choose among those moods before comparing the amount of sculpted detail. A partnership, an isolated monster and a small resting scene can all feel complete when the supporting forms have a clear job.
Choose a companion for the idea it adds, not simply for another figure.

Compare the Jiraiya and Gamabunta relationship with other Naruto pairings. The useful question is whether the companion remains a subject in its own right or simply becomes part of the base.
