Groups and portraits: Dragon Ball, Pokémon & BLEACH

Issue No. 23 · Cover: Sousuke Aizen – Bleach
A shared scene earns its space when the figures make sense together.
A travelling quartet, Aizen’s isolated stance and a large confrontation separate group storytelling from individual portraits.

Editor’s Letter
Sousuke Aizen – Bleach and Yamada / Tayama – Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You make strong cases for an individual portrait. The Dragon Ball van offers a different reason to collect: a small shared journey.

The standing figure can remain the whole point when costume and posture already establish the subject. The travelling group uses a vehicle to explain why several characters occupy the same space. The confrontation and summoning scenes in the selection make more dramatic relationships, but they also ask for a larger area in which those relationships can remain visible. We would not treat the number of figures as a measure of value by itself. A small group is useful when its members interact with a clear setting, while a single portrait can offer more focus beside an already busy collection. The evolutionary Pokémon set adds another kind of connection, linking forms through a consistent effects language rather than a narrative event. Each approach deserves a viewing position that keeps its reason for being together understandable.
Why Now
01
Dragon Ball announces its autumn broadcast
The September 3 official article announced an October broadcast for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus and revealed new promotional material. It places the van quartet beside current series activity while preserving its quieter travelling theme.
02
Pokémon’s anniversary reaches a retail event
Best Buy’s August 25 announcement described Pokémon anniversary trading-card activity and a Trade and Play event. The date supplies a broader collecting reference for Pikachu and the evolution set, rather than a statue sales signal.
03
An everyday-character pop-up
The August 21 official notice announced a Marui pop-up for Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, using an imagined shared-workplace theme. That everyday framing fits the Yamada/Tayama portrait’s alternative outfits and simple bases.

Chapter 01
Focused figures: Aizen, Ichigo & Kaiba
A solitary stance, a towering companion and an opposing figure create different levels of visual commitment. The main character should remain identifiable within the supporting forms.
Sousuke Aizen - Bleach
Sousuke Aizen – Bleach places the pale standing costume above a dark effects base. The long clothing creates a continuous vertical shape, while the darker lower forms keep the figure distinct from its support. It is a portrait-led composition rather than a crowded group scene.
The 1/6 version is listed at 34.5 cm high, 25 cm wide and 21 cm deep; 1/4 is 52 by 38 by 31.5 cm. We would choose the size according to the surrounding portraits, preserving the clean outline. The larger version changes the space commitment, but the central appeal remains the same restrained standing presence.
Best for: an isolated character portrait with a clear light-and-dark division

Shared moments: Van Quartet, Pikachu & Madoka
A vehicle, a park setting or an evolutionary relationship gives several figures a reason to share the display. Small accents can sit beside them without needing another elaborate environment.
Dragon Ball Vehicle Series Van Quartet: Yamcha, Krillin, Master Roshi and Son Goku
The Dragon Ball Vehicle Series Van Quartet brings Yamcha, Krillin, Master Roshi and Son Goku into a single vehicle scene. The van is the common setting that connects the characters, making the group readable as one object rather than four independent portraits crowded onto a base.
The listed dimensions are 13.6 cm wide, 15 cm high and 18.5 cm deep in the WCF format. We like it for a collection that needs a compact shared moment. The appeal lies in the vehicle and its occupants together, so a close viewing position is more useful than placing it behind a larger effects scene.
Best for: a compact Dragon Ball group organised around a shared vehicle

The van makes the group worthwhile.
Dragon Ball Vehicle Series Van Quartet is our preference when several characters should form one compact scene. The vehicle explains their shared space immediately. Sousuke Aizen – Bleach is the more focused alternative when a single standing portrait is what the collection needs.
Yamada / Tayama offers variation through bodies and heads rather than a large environment. Pikachu provides the simplest accent beside either approach. We would choose between a shared journey, a costume portrait and a small character marker before considering the more demanding confrontation scenes, whose scale only helps when the whole encounter can remain visible.
A clear reason to share the scene matters more than the number of figures.

The Dragon Ball vehicle format offers a different route from combat poses and transformation scenes. Compare the role of a shared setting with the appeal of a single character before adding another large effects base.
