Editor’s Letter
Running Mario and Super Star and Mechanical Modernia make very different uses of complexity. Kamen Rider Zeztz sits between them, with a recognisable armoured figure held inside a sweeping action frame.
Read the full letterClose letter
Mario benefits from familiar shapes that remain clear at a glance: the star, clouds and platforms reinforce the running direction. The mechanical display rewards a closer look through overlapping armour and weapon assemblies. We would not ask the two to perform the same role on a shelf. The playful scene can remain open and graphic, while the machinery needs space for its edges to separate. A small figurehead or a simple Pokémon portrait offers another useful change of scale without needing to reproduce either kind of complexity. The strongest arrangement keeps those differences visible. Adding more objects around the mechanical figure can hide the very details that justify it, while crowding the platform scene can weaken the directness that makes it appealing.
Why Now
01
A new viewing window for Demon Slayer
A July 3 notice on the official anime site announced the first Infinity Castle film for digital platforms and Crunchyroll on July 28. It supplies a current screen connection for the Shinobu effects scene.
02
Digimon announces an autumn programme
The official Digimon portal announced an October 4 television programme on August 1. This is a dated franchise connection for Skull Greymon; the recommendation rests on the creature’s open skeletal form.
03
2B in a crossover announcement
A July 3 report announced a NieR:Automata collaboration with Azur Lane featuring 2B and A2. The 2B selection has that character connection, while its low combat stance and ruined setting explain the display choice.
Chapter 01
Graphic icons: Mario, Pikachu & Thousand Sunny
Familiar shapes and bright divisions make these subjects immediately recognisable. Their clarity is a useful contrast to more intricate armour and effects scenes.
Running Mario and Super Star
Running Mario and Super Star combines the running figure with clouds, mushroom platforms and a Question Block above a grass-and-soil base. The star supplies a large graphic accent, while the platforms give the movement a clear setting. Each element belongs to the same playful visual language.
The 1/6 scene is listed at 46.7 cm high, 38.2 cm wide and 36.4 cm deep; 1/10 is 28 by 23 by 21.8 cm. We would choose the size according to the space around the whole scene, keeping the star and the running direction clear rather than filling the foreground with smaller objects.
Best for: a colourful platform scene with an open, readable arrangement

Armoured motion: Zeztz, Ichigo & Shinobu
A weapon and a continuous effect can give an armoured or costumed figure a clear route through the scene. The pose should remain legible inside the surrounding movement.
Kamen Rider Zeztz
Kamen Rider Zeztz places the armoured figure within sweeping translucent effects above a rocky impact base. The large curves carry the movement across the scene, while illuminated ZZZ lettering supplies a graphic reference below. The rider remains the central subject rather than becoming one small element in a group.
The listed dimensions are 37 cm wide, 23 cm deep and 35 cm high. We like this when an action display needs a distinct outer frame. The effects deserve separation from the background, and their shape should remain convincing in ordinary light rather than depending entirely on the illuminated lettering.
Best for: an armoured action figure inside a clearly directed effects frame

Layered structures: Modernia, Skull Greymon & 2B
Mechanical layers, open bones and a framed setting create different kinds of structure. These pieces reward a view that allows the supporting forms to remain separate.
Mechanical Modernia
Mechanical Modernia places the pilot within a combat body built from layered armour, a large firearm, shoulder turbines and extended weapon assemblies. Rear blade-like forms and a support column add further levels to the structure. The machinery is the main visual subject, with the pilot giving it a central point of reference.
The listing gives a height of 57 cm at 1/12 scale. We would choose this for the depth of the mechanical arrangement, not assume that the smaller scale means a small display. The outer weapons and rear forms need clearance so their overlap remains understandable from the intended viewing angle.

View piece →Final Take
Mario should keep the open space.
Running Mario and Super Star is our preference for a bright scene whose familiar shapes remain readable at a glance. Mechanical Modernia is a separate commitment to armour and weapon detail, best placed where the full arrangement can be examined without interruption.
The Thousand Sunny figurehead supplies the smallest change of format, with its magnetic configuration moving the display away from a conventional shelf base. Kamen Rider Zeztz offers a more concentrated action frame between those extremes. We would keep the playful, mechanical and graphic roles distinct instead of asking one crowded arrangement to carry all three.
Graphic clarity and mechanical complexity benefit from different surroundings.

Continue with Super Mario.
Compare Mario’s platform scene with other Super Mario displays by following the intended route of movement. The star and supporting blocks should make that route clearer, not merely add more objects.
