CHARACTER ORIGIN
Charmander is the iconic Fire-type starter Pokémon from Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise, beloved across generations for its earnest, loyal nature — and for the poignant detail that the flame on its tail reflects its very life force. Calcifer is the bound fire demon at the heart of Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle (2004), a wisecracking yet deeply vulnerable spirit who powers Howl's enchanted castle while quietly longing for freedom. LongMiao Studio's original crossover imagines a rainy forest encounter between the two: Charmander, ever-protective, raises a broad leaf to shelter his new fire-spirit companion — only to watch Calcifer accidentally singe the very umbrella meant to save him.
