Asuka Langley Soryu is one of the central pilots of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the landmark 1995 mecha series by Gainax and director Hideaki Anno. Fiercely independent and relentlessly competitive, she defines herself through combat excellence — her pride as the designated pilot of Unit-02 is both her greatest strength and the armor she wears over deep-seated vulnerability.
