CHARACTER ORIGIN

Calcifer is the fire demon at the heart of Hayao Miyazaki’s 2004 animated film Howl’s Moving Castle, itself an adaptation of Diana Wynne Jones’s beloved novel. Bound to the castle’s hearth by a secret contract with the wizard Howl, Calcifer burns with a personality far larger than his small flame — sardonic, loyal, and quietly vulnerable beneath the bravado.
