    Asuka Langley Soryu is one of the central pilots of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the landmark 1995 mecha series by Gainax and director Hideaki Anno. Fiercely proud and relentlessly driven, Asuka pilots Unit-02 and serves as a foil to protagonist Shinji Ikari — her outward confidence masking deep emotional wounds that the series gradually, painfully unravels.
