Accompanying Steps — Lin & Chihiro Ogino

This piece locks onto the early bathhouse shift — the moment Lin and Chihiro are assigned to scrub the floor together, with Lin making clear she has zero patience for a newcomer who doesn’t know how to work. It’s a small scene in the film’s runtime but a load-bearing one: it’s where the dynamic between the two characters actually forms, skepticism and all. LAPUTA Studio chose to stage it at floor level, keeping both figures horizontal and close to the base, which forces the viewer down to their eye-line rather than looking down at the piece. The wooden bucket sitting at the edge of the plank and the engraved title plate on the base surface treat the display as a continuation of the bathhouse floor itself.
