CHARACTER ORIGIN
Rei Ayanami is a central figure in Hideaki Anno's landmark 1995 mecha series Neon Genesis Evangelion, produced by Gainax. She serves as the First Child and pilot of Evangelion Unit-00, her identity shrouded in mystery that gradually unravels as one of the series' most emotionally devastating revelations.
