Frieren is the elven mage protagonist of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, the manga series by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, later adapted into a celebrated anime. Having lived for over a thousand years largely unbothered by human emotion, Frieren is defined by her gradual, painful awakening to grief — most devastatingly at the funeral of Himmel the Hero, when she realizes she never truly learned to know the people she traveled beside.
