CHARACTER ORIGIN
Neon Genesis Evangelion, the landmark 1995 mecha-psychological anime series by Gainax and director Hideaki Anno, follows a group of teenagers piloting biomechanical giants against catastrophic beings known as Angels. Asuka Langley Soryu is the fiercely proud Second Child — a pilot whose relentless drive and sharp exterior mask a profound vulnerability most clearly exposed during her mental collapse in the series' later episodes.
